Derek Cropp has personally worked as a fisheries observer on foreign fishing vessels and this has provided valuable experience with regard to fish identification, catch monitoring, longlining techniques, utilisation of modern electronic technology, liaison with Japanese and Australian longlining fishermen and overall, a good working knowledge of the industry.
